La Economía Digital está en el centro de las prioridades establecidas por la Comisión Europea (CE) para el período 2019-24, como indicó la presidenta Ursula Von der Leyen. Es el motor más importante de innovación, competitividad y empleo. La forma en que las empresas europeas adopten las tecnologías digitales será clave para su crecimiento futuro. La digitalización también es necesaria para que las pymes y los profesionales tengan éxito en nuestro mundo hiperconectado.
En este contexto, la investigación es clave para generar conocimiento y apoyar la trasformación digital y la innovación en Europa. Este es el objetivo primordial de este grupo de investigación.
The Digital Economy is at the center of the priorities established by the European Commission (EC) for the period 2019-24, as indicated by President Ursula Von der Leyen. It is the most important driver of innovation, competitiveness and employment. How European companies adopt digital technologies will be key to their future growth. Digitization is also necessary for SMEs and professionals to succeed in our hyper-connected world.
In this context, research is key to generating knowledge and supporting digital transformation and innovation in Europe. This is the primary objective of this research group.

Desde su constitución, el director del grupo y miembros del mismo han conseguido la concesión por parte de la Comisión Europea de una Cátedra Jean Monnet (dentro del programa Erasmus+: 619793-EPP-1-2020-1-ES-EPPJMO-CHAIR) sobre Economía digital en la UE, para profesionales y pymes ("Digital Economy in the EU for SMEs and professionals"), centrada en la docencia e investigación sobre el tema:

El director del grupo y miembros del mismo participan actualmente en diversos proyectos y contratos con la Comisión Europea (por ejemplo, con la Dirección General de Política Regional y Urbana, DG REGIO) o el Gobierno de Cantabria.
Con anterioridad a la formación del grupo, los investigadores que lo forman parte han participado conjuntamente en diversos proyectos europeos y nacionales financiados por la Comisión Europea (por ejemplo en diversos proyectos Erasmus+, como "I see you" o "The Colisee"), Belgian Science Policy Office, EMES Research Network o Instituto Nacional de Administración Pública (INAP), entre otros.
Con anterioridad a su constitución como grupo, los miembros del mismo han participado conjuntamente en múltiples proyectos de investigación, tesis y publicaciones con índice de impacto.
