During the last 25 years, philosophers of science in the analytic tradition have been inquiring into the methodological foundations of medicine, addressing questions such as the definition of diseases or the proper assessment of biomedical evidence and causation. Sessions on these topics have proliferated in the major conferences in our field and the literature is growing exponentially. In this course, we want to provide a short introduction to the philosophical dilemmas that arise in scientific medicine.
Please, sign up only if you can read and write in English correctly.

Topics in the philosophy of medicine
Since only a handful of students enrol, during the first week you vote which chapters of the textbooks you find more interesting and then I decide the reading list and provide the questions for the assignments.
The assignments should be delived by March 31st, April 30th, May 31st
If you are considering enrolling, please email the instructor (atocha@fsof.uned.es) with your queries.
Every student should answer three questionnaires on the course textbook in no more than 1500 words. The answers should be posted on a dedicated ALF message board so that other students can contribute to discuss them. It is essential that every student emails Atocha Aliseda (atocha@fsof.uned.es) at the start of the term to agree on a supervision plan.
