SEMESTER 2
CASTELLANO

ENGLISH VERSION

This course contextualises and applies all the knowledge acquired throughout the Master’s degree within the most advanced and demanding setting in the field: ITER, DONES and other fusion facilities. It highlights the specific characteristics of the radiation sources, radiation fields and functional requirements of these systems, completing the learning progression towards specialisation. Its distinctive value lies in providing an applied understanding of the strategic role of neutronics in major international projects.

The course begins with an introduction to ITER and DONES, given their importance in the field of nuclear fusion. It then provides a comprehensive review of the workflow studied by students throughout the Master’s degree, applying it to the context of nuclear fusion. Particular aspects of geometry generation in this field are addressed. The course subsequently reviews the different radiation sources expected at ITER and DONES, which constitute key drivers for the design and operation of these facilities. The physics and modelling of several highly relevant radiation sources that also pose significant methodological challenges are examined in greater depth. As a practical component, students will perform a comprehensive nuclear analysis relevant to these facilities. Although limited in scope, the analysis will cover every stage of the workflow.

Students will thus acquire a comprehensive understanding of how to conduct nuclear analyses for ITER and DONES, develop sound decision-making criteria and gain experience in a realistic context in preparation for undertaking a more substantial Master’s thesis (TFM).
