Research activity

Rafael Pastor Vargas has been recognized two six-year research periods by the Spanish government.  He has participated in a big number of R&D projects (21) financed in public calls (regional, national and international), some of them with special relevance with Companies and / or Administrations of international scope. Among the nationals, it is worth highlighting the Project "Integration of open services for distributed, reusable and secure remote and virtual laboratories" of the Ministry, in which he was the main researcher. The current active international projects are ECoVEM (2020-2024), SFinLit and I4EU (2019-2022). He has also participated in many papers published in international journals (20 JCRs, 7 SJRs, 2 Lecture Notes, 2 Emerging Citation Index, etc.) and conferences (5 GGS 2-class, 18 GGS 3-class, 17 GGS work-in-progress, etc.). A total of 10 relevant papers have been collaborations with prestigious researchers belonging to foreign research centers. He has also supervised 26 final degree and 28 final master projects. He has also participated as a member/reviewer in several international scientific societies, as well as JCR journals and conferences.  On the other hand, this professor is a member of the G-eLios research (now, named I4Labs) and G-TAEI teaching innovation groups, both since September 2016; and of the teaching innovation group for cybersecurity, CiberGID, since June 2018. Additionally, he has supervised three laboratory technicians, which is founded by the Community of Madrid and Education Minister. Currently, he is supervising four PhD students within the Industrial Technologies Program at the UNED’s Doctorate International School. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since September 2020; he has belonged to this society in different types of membership. have participated as a member in several international scientific societies, such as IEEE (Education Society). More specifically, he has participated in the directive of the Spanish chapter of the IEEE Education Society, being the coordinator of the working group on virtual/remote laboratories. He also been a co-founder member in July 2020 for the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu UNED chapter, called Nu Alpha Chapter. It involves good-qualified students, industry professionals, and faculty to give them support in their activities.
