Research activity

My research area broadly focuses on Cultural Psychology, specifically on how sociocultural practices and cultural tools influence psychological processes. Since my six-year tenure at the Niels Bohr Centre for Cultural Psychology at Aalborg University (Denmark), I have been working on two main research lines. On the one hand, on the role of narratives and memorials in shaping collective memory and national identity, currently through the European HORIZON-MSCA-SE-2021 project Making Histories: Integrating Innovative Theories and Practices in Historical Culture and Education. On the other hand, on the mediating role of new technologies in processes of memory and grief. This line of research began in 2017 with the project The Culture of Grief: Socio-material Practices for Public Grief and Collective Memory, led by Svend Brinkmann (Aalborg University) and funded by the Obel Foundation. It was later expanded in collaboration with Belén Jiménez (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) through the bioethics project funded by the Grífols Foundation, Can Artificial Intelligence Help Us Prepare for Death? Ethical Questions About Griefbots and End-of-Life.

RESEARCH GROUPS

  • Thinking History and Memory Our research team focuses on studying the learning and teaching of knowledge about the past, as well as its relationship with the uses of history and memory, in both formal contexts (schools) and informal ones (commemorations, museums, among others). Our approach is grounded in contributions from psychology and education, adopting an interdisciplinary perspective and paying close attention to cultural debates about the role of history in contemporary societies. https://histandmem.com/ https://making-histories.eu/ https://www.thinkinghistories.com/
