Presentation and Academic Information

Agustin C. Caminero-Herraez (M'10) is Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) at the Control and Communication Systems Department in the Spanish University for Distance Education (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, UNED), Madrid (Spain). He has been member of the UNED staff in different positions since December 2009. He is teacher and/or coordinator of different official degree and postdegree courses and permanent education courses on Big Data, cloud computing, NoSQL, relational databases, and multimedia at UNED.

He is also coordinator of the official program on "Computing systems and networks administration" (Administración de Sistemas Informáticos en Red, ASIR), part of the agreement between UNED and Gredos San Diego Cooperativa.

Nowadays, he is the Principal Investigator of research project "FILE: efFIcient scheduLing of containErs" (2019-PUNED-0007), funded by UNED through the Independent Thinking-Jóvenes Investigadores 2019 call.

Furthermore, since June 2021 he is Deputy Vice-rector for Life-long Learning for Digitization and Institutional Relations (Vice-Rector Adjunto de Formación Permanente para la Digitalización y las Relaciones Institucionales).

Finally, he is Associate Editor of IEEE Journal of Latin-American Learning Technologies (IEEE Revista Iberoamericana de Tecnologias del Aprendizaje, IEEE-RITA). He has 2 six-years research evaluation periods (sexenios de investigacion), from 2005-2012 and 2013-2018. He is IEEE Senior Member.

Academic training:

B.Sc (2001), M.Sc. (2004) and Ph.D. (2009) in Computer Science, from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Albacete (Spain).


 

Professional experience prior to joining UNED

Part-time associate professor, School of Computer Engineering of Albacete (Spain), University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). From October 2004 to January 2005.

Predoctoral fellow (with a scholarship phase and later a contract) at the School of Computer Engineering of Albacete (Spain), University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). From February 2005 to September 2008.

Professor of Professional Training in Development of Computer Applications, at the Ministry of Education of the Region of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain (2008-09).

Postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Computer Science of Complutense University (Madrid, Spain). From June to December 2009.

Educational management experience

Coordinator of the modular programs in Network Information Systems Administration (Administración de sistemas Informáticos en Red , ASIR), the result of the agreement between UNED and Gredos San Diego Cooperativa for the delivery of the official title of Higher Degree Professional Training at ASIR since 2015.

Deputy Vice-Rector for Life-Long Training for Digitization and Institutional Relations since 2021.


 

Investigation

INVESTIGATION GROUPS

  • Research Group in Electrical Engineering and Advanced Technologies in Education and its Standardization, Sustainability, Mobility, Telematics and Cybersecurity, Bioengineering, Data Intelligence, Optimized Control and Chemistry Applied to Engineering, from UNED (G-eLios).
    The researchers of the G-eLIOS group have more than twenty years of experience covering various developments in the areas of technological innovation in education and its applications. These projects can be divided into:
    
    - Projects related to Distance Education and the application of multimedia techniques.
    
    - Development and use of simulation tools for the design and implementation of electrical circuits, electronic architecture, computing, advanced microprocessor systems, etc.
    
    - Design and development of training tools and platforms, with an emphasis on the possibilities of using and customizing systems for collaborative work.

PROYECTOS DE INVESTIGACIÓN

  • PROJECT "FILE: efFIcient scheduLing of containErs"
    This project addresses the problem of scheduling applications deployed in lightweight containers on edge / fog / cloud infrastructures.
    
    This project has been funded by UNED within the Independent Thinking-Young Researchers 2019 program.
