Research activity

Member of the ATLAS (Applying Technology to LAnguageS) and the GLOBE (Innovative Didactic Group for Languages in Open and Blended Environments) groups , her current research interests include MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), Open Educational Resources (OERs), Computer-Mediated Communication, Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) and Social Networks for Language Learning.
She has participated in 10 European and national research projects and 5 projects based on art. 83 LOU, for the transfer of R&D to the  productive sector, the last of which, as main researcher, carried out under an agreement between the UNED and Telefónica Educación Digital.
She has delivered papers at more than 30 international conferences, and has taken part in over 25 seminars and international conferences, 3 of them as plenary speaker.

Professional experience

She is a member of the UNESCO Chair of Distance Education (CUED) and her academic work is carried out at the National University of Distance Education, where she is a member of the Doctoral School and teaches official Masters and Degree courses. She has supervised four Doctoral Theses, more than thirty Master's Theses and fifteen Degree Theses and twelve final projects. She has also taught postgraduate courses at institutions and universities such as the UCM (Doctorate with mention of quality), the UCJC, and the Instituto Cervantes.I
In 2016 she created the consolidated intradisciplinary Teaching Innovation Group (GID) of the UNED "Innovative Didactic Group for Languages in Open and Blended Environments - GLOBE", (director of the same 2016-2021) where she has obtained and coordinated to date three funded competitive projects of teaching innovation.

She has also carried out the following professional activities, among others:

- Member of the Special Interest Group on Language MOOCs in EuroCALL (European Association for Computer Assisted Language Learning).
- Reviewer of prestigious international journals, such as the following: Computer Assisted Language Learning (JCR Q1); Language Learning & Technology (JCR Q1); ReCALL (JCR Q1), International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (SJR, Q1).
- Member of the scientific committee of national and international journals of recognised prestige (among others, RIED, EuroCall Review, Verbeia).
- Member of the organising committee at international conferences.
- Member of the scientific committee at international conferences.
- Adviser to the National Institute for Educational Evaluation, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
- Specialist German language adviser to the selection board for the entrance examinations for the State Corps of Industrial Engineers.

She has participated in national and international conferences and seminars at universities and other institutions. Among the most recent international ones, she has been invited as a plenary speaker at "e-Learning Korea 2019: Conference" (Seoul, Korea), LWMOOOCs 2018 (Madrid, Spain), BMBWF - IKK (Vienna, Austria), ICRISH 2018 (Rome, Italy) and has participated in CALICO 2019 (Montreal, Canada), EUROCALL 2018 (Jyväskylä, Finland), Vital 2017 (Hasselt, Belgium), EUROCALL 2017 (Southhampton-UK), among others.

Educational management experience

Director of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics since September 2021.  She has also held the position of Vice-Dean of Students and Research, Coordinator of Mobility in the Faculty of Philology and Academic Secretary of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics. She has been coordinator or member of several departmental and faculty committees, as well as an elected member of the Faculty Board and the University Senate.

Research

INVESTIGATION GROUPS

  • ATLAS - APPLYING ATLAS is a consolidated interdisciplinary research group of the UNED that was created at the end of the 20th century. The general objective in its twenty years of existence has been to carry out research in Applied English Linguistics and to contribute to the progress of this discipline from a dual linguistic and technological perspective, given that its members are university teachers of second languages or engineers interested in the application of technological advances to their teaching. +info
  • GLOBE- Innovative Didactic Group for Languages in Open and Blended Environments GLOBE is an interdisciplinary Teaching Innovation Group founded in 2016 whose main objective is the implementation of the results of its research in the field of ICT for the development of linguistic-communicative competences in second languages of university students in hybrid and online environments (which can also be, nowadays: collaborative, open, mobile, etc.) in the Bachelor and Master subjects taught by the teachers of the group, in order to improve the participation, performance and success rates of students
