Formación Académica

Sebastián Dormido Canto es Ingeniero Industrial (Especialidad Electrónica) por la Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, ICAI (1994) y Doctor en Ciencias Físicas por la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, UNED (2001). Comenzó su labor profesional como becario de investigación del proyecto HITO (Herramienta Integrada Total para Optimización) durante unos meses en el año 1994.

Puestos académicos desempeñados

Ha desempeñado distintos puestos en el Departamento de Informática y Automática de la Uned: Ayudante de Escuela Universitaria (15/12/94 - 14/01/97), Titular Interino de Escuela Universitaria (15/01/97 - 29/07/99), Titular de Escuela Universitaria (30/07/99 - 10/03/03), Titular de Universidad (11/03/03 - 27/02/18), Catedrático de Universidad (28/02/18 - actualidad).

Actividad Investigadora

Es coautor de más de 60 publicaciones en revistas con índice de impacto (JCR), de más de 65 publicaciones en congresos y 15 conferencias invitadas y 2 capítulos de libros orientados a la investigación. Ha participado en 15 proyectos de investigación competitivos, siendo investigador principal en 3 proyectos del Plan Nacional, en una tarea internacional y en un proyecto de la UNED/Banco Santander. Ha participado en la firma de 3 contratos de investigación, es investigador responsable del convenio firmado con Siemens dentro del marco del Máster de Ingeniería de Sistemas y Control. Tiene reconocidos 3 sexenios de investigación. Ha dirigido 13 tesis doctorales (tres de ellas con premio extraordinario de doctorado) y tutorizado 2 tesis más, ha dirigido 15 proyectos final de carrera y 16 trabajos fin de máster.

Ha realizado 11 estancias investigación en centros extranjeros, destacando los 18 meses que ha estado los últimos años en JET (The Joint European Torus) contribuyendo de una forma activa en el campo de la predicción de disrupciones en los dispositivos experimentales de fusión ttermonuclear. La investigación realizada en los últimos años ha dado como resultado un predictor de disrupciones (APODIS, Advanced Predictor Of DISruptions) que se ha instalado en la red de tiempo real de JET.
