Research activity
Professor Carriedo's research focuses on executive functions - inhibition of responses and thoughts, updating information in working memory or cognitive flexibility - throughout the life cycle of an individual. She targets the understanding of their organization, development and their relationship with the functionality of people in two different areas: 1) school performance in children and adolescents in instrumental skills such as mathematical reasoning and text comprehension; and 2) cognitive impairment associated in adults with various neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's type dementias.

PROYECTOS DE INVESTIGACIÓN

Proyecto actual: Predictores longitudionales del logro matemático multicomponente
Este proyecto forma parte de una iniciativa en curso que se inició en otoño de 2016 con la evaluación de niños españoles distribuidos en diversas cohortes, seguidos hasta el final del sexto curso de educación primaria.
Además, extenderremos este estudio longitudinal a tres nuevas cohortes en Costa Rica, un país latinoamericano con el que compartimos idioma y, en gran medida, currículo de matemáticas, aunque desde contextos socioeconómicos diferentes. La comparación transcultural de los resultados nos permitirá generalizar los hallazgos, proporcionando un valor añadido al proyecto.
Adoptamos una perspectiva multidimensional del logro matemático, vinculada a una combinación diferencial de habilidades de dominio general y específico. Estas combinaciones variarán a lo largo de la educación infantil y primaria en función del desarrollo cognitivo de los niños y la adquisición jerárquica de las diferentes habilidades matemáticas.
