Research activity

My research activity began as a pre-doctoral fellow at the CSIC, and then developed at the URJC and UNED universities. I completed a post-doctoral stay as Visiting Faculty in the BLENDER group at Queens College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY).

My research interests focus on the study and proposal of text representation models for automatic text processing. I am currently focused on the area of distributional semantic composition and semantic similarity estimation in vector and probabilistic spaces, and within the context of the neural language models.

I have supervised a total of 4 PhD theses (2 of them awarded with Extraordinary Prize and 3 with International Mention). I have also supervised a total of 20 Master's Thesis in different research Master's Degrees at the UNED.

I am co-author of more than 80 publications in the field. In these publications I have shared authorship with more than 50 researchers from four countries (Spain, USA, Israel and Finland) and 13 universities and research centres (CSIC, URJC, UNED, UAM, UPM, UEM, UC3M, USC, UPV-EHU, UPC, CUNY, University of Helsinki, University of North Carolina).

Among my most relevant publications include 21 articles in JCR indexed journals, 15 articles published in conferences included in the main conference rankings in the field, as well as 4 papers awarded with the Best Paper Award. In addition, I have published 7 book chapters and 15 articles in the journal Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural, a journal with the FECYT quality seal for Spanish scientific journals and a reference in the area of Natural Language Processing in Spanish.

Regarding my participation in competitive research projects, I have participted in 10 National Plan projects (one of them as PI), 3 ERC projects, as well as 11 other projects funded by different administrations or companies (being PI in two of them), in which I have successfully experienced the transfer of research to the productive sector.
