Academic Information

  • PhD in Physics at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Spain, in 2003.
  • M.S. Degree in Electronic Engineering  at the Universidad de Granada (Spain) in 1996.
  • Industrial Technical Engineer from the University of Córdoba (Spain) in 1990.

 

Research activity

Since 1997, researcher in different national public projects (being principal investigator in the last of them) and others privately financed. All these projects are related to the application of artificial intelligence to different domains such as medicine (medical image-based diagnosis and image processing), video surveillance, mathematics and industry, among others.

Areas of interest: Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary Computation, Machine Learning, and Artificial Vision.

Professional experience

  • Systems Engineer at the company SAINCO (1996), working on installation and control projects.
  • Maintenance Engineer at the company Sel-Señalización, S.A (1991-1992), working in the maintenance of railway facilities.

RESEARCH GROUPS

  • SIMDA “Systems with Intelligence: Modeling, Development and Applications”. The SIMDA group is a multidisciplinary team of researchers from the Dept. of Artificial Intelligence at the UNED. Its activity is focused on modeling and development of intelligent systems with application on different domains such as education, medicine, surveillance, and industry, among others. + info
