Academic Information
Whitney Dennis is a doctoral student in the Art History Department, where she is preparing her PhD thesis on the art collecting of the Spanish old nobility and the new rituals of social, cultural and artistic distinction that developed in the first half of the twentieth century, focusing specifically on the case of the 17th duke of Alba, Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart. She is part of the research group "Art and Thought in the Modern and Contemporary Periods" and also of the research project "Politics of Noble Legitimation: Similiarities, differences and appropriations in the art collecting of the Spanish nobility and bourgeoisie (1788-1931)".

RESEARCH PROJECTS
- PoLeNo PoLeNo, es un proyecto de investigación que estudia las políticas artísticas de legitimación social de la nobleza antigua española en el periodo 1750-1931, analizando especialmente la gestión de sus colecciones y la interpretación de los relatos ideológicos construidos a partir de ellas. La transición de la Edad Moderna a la Edad Contemporánea supone un momento de reconfiguración de las políticas artísticas de la nobleza antigua como respuesta a la crisis de legitimidad social del estamento, a la competencia de la nueva nobleza y otros grupos en ascenso y a la coincidencia con la institucionalización de un nuevo sistema artístico. Todos estos elementos generan una reorganización de las colecciones, de sus modos de exhibición y de la interpretación pública de las mismas. PoLeNo
