Academic Information

Rubén Chacón Beltrán holds a BA in English Philology (1995), and a PhD in English Philology, with a specialization in Applied Linguistics, from the University of Seville (2001).

Academic positions held

. Dr. Rubén Chacón-Beltrán joined the UNED in 2001 and is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics, and at the moment he is Dean of the Faculty of Philology (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia) in Madrid, Spain. He has taught at various Spanish universities and has been guest scholar at various universities abroad: The Open University, Birmingham City University, University of the West of England, Swansea University, Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, Universidad Nacional del Comahue, etc.

Research activity

. Rubén Chacón-Beltrán's main research interests are sociolinguistics -with a special emphasis on bilingualism and bilingual education-, and the use of new technologies for language learning. Rubén Chacón-Beltrán is codirector in the pannel for Curricular Design and Language Teaching in the Spanish National Association for Applied Linguistics (AESLA). Member of LITHME Management Committee COST-CA19102 and member of BiMO project (Bilingualism in Monolingual Contexts) Erasmus+ 2020-1-ES01-KA201-081917. He is editor of the Spanish academic journal, ELIA (Studies in Applied English Linguistics). He has coedited some books such as "Age in L2 acquisition and teaching" (2006), Peter Lang; "Insights into vocabulary teaching and learning" (2010), Multilingual Matters; and "The impact of affective variables in L2 teaching and learning" (2010), University of Seville and "Bilingual and Multilingual Education in the 21st Century: Building on Experience" (2013), Multilingual Matters. Rubén Chacón Beltrán coordinates the grupo for teaching innovation "Innovación Docente para la Enseñanza, Aprendizaje y Adquisición de Lenguas (IDEAAL)" GID2016-14.
