Research activity

Research areas:  Functional Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Applied Linguistics.

Author/coauthor of 12 books and co-editor of 3 volumes in the above-mentioned research areas. Latest books: Evaluation in Context (in coedition with Geoff Thompson, 2014, John Benjamins), Pragmatics: Cognition, Context and Culture (in co-authorship with J. Lachlan Mackenzie, 2016, McGraw Hill), Emotion in Discourse (en coedition with J. Lachlan Mackenzie, 2019, John Benjamins).

Presently working on the edition of a volume on the sociopragmatics of emotion, in co-authorship with Michael Haugh (University of Queensland, Australia).

Author of numerous articles in scientific books and journals within the field of Linguistics

PI (Principal Investigator) of several funded projects, the last one being
EMO-FunDETT (FFI2013-47792-C2-1-P, granted by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad), which explores the relationship between human language and emotion in work environments, and whose subproject explores the related phenomenon of persuasion.

At present: Member of the research team of two national projects: 1) Fake News in Social Media. Three Case Studies: Populism, Covid, Climate Change, and 2) Children's picture books about migration: Multimodal analysis and applicability to multicultural and multilingual environments (MIAMUL)

Evaluator of scientific projects for the National Evaluation Agency (ANEP), as well as for some international agencies.

Member of the scientific committee of numerous Linguistics journals.

Founding member of the Spanish Association of Discourse Linguistics.
