Academic information

Guillermo Laín Corona has a BA in Hispanic Philology (2004) and a PhD in Spanish Literature (2009) from Universidad de Málaga. He also has an MA (2007) and a PhD (2011) in Hispanic Studies from University College London.

Academic positions

Guillermo Laín Corona joined UNED in 2016 as an Assistant Professor, and he was Associate Professor (Contratado Doctor) between 2019 and 2020. Since then, he is Associate Professor (Professor Titular). Before, he taught Spanish Language and Literature, Comparative Literature, Translation (English into Spanish) and Pedagogy of Languages and Literature at University College London, Royal Holloway University of London, Universidad de Málaga, Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad Europea de Madrid and TAI: Escuela Universitaria de Artes y Espectáculos, as well as Spanish as a Foreign Language in different schools.

Research activity

Guillermo Laín Corona’s main research field is Contemporary Spanish Literature, having paid attention to the work of Gabriel Miró and Francisco Umbral. Between 2011 and 2013, he got funding from the Spanish Ministry of Education to do postdoctoral research abroad, studying in University College London the links between prose fiction and Liberalism in 20th Century Spain, and since then he is still working in literature and politics. Between 2019 and 2025, he has been one of the two Principal Investigators (together with Clara I. Martínez Cantón) of PoeMAS, a research project studying the links between poetry and contemporary popular music, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation in two trienniums (PGC2018-099641-A-I00 and PID2021-25022NB- I00). He is also interested in Spanish-American literature, and, as part of the group SELITEN@T, he works on contemporary Spanish theatre. 

Management experience in education

Guillermo Laín Corona is currently Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs and Digitalization at the Faculty of Philology (UNED). Between 2016 and 2019, he was the academic secretary of the MA in Formación e Investigación Literaria y Teatral en el Contexto Europeo (Faculty of Philology); and, between 2018 and 2020, he was the coordinator of the field of literature (equivalent to Director of Department) in the MA in Formación del Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanza de Idiomas (Faculty of Education).

Publications

  • Publications in journals Guillermo Laín Corona has published extensively in national and international journals that are highly indexed, such as Boletín de la Real Academia Española, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Revue Romane, Bulletin of Spanish Studies, Revista de Literatura and Arbor, among others. Recently, he has been part of Project PoeMAS, having studied the links between music and poetry. Particularly, he has co-edited (together with Clara I. Martínez Cantón) a monographic issue on "Nuevos cauces de la poesía en la música popular española, y su recepción", Bulletin of Contemporary Hispanic Studies, 3.1 (2021), which includes his article on “Versos al paso de Madrid: antología posmoderna de poesía y músic"'. Also, it is worth mentioning his article "Joaquín Sabina: poesía, personaje y marca musical", published in Ínsula: Revista de Letras y Ciencias Humanas, 900 (2021).

  • Publications in books Guillermo Laín Corona has published and/or edited books and book chapters in prestigious national and international houses specialised in Humanities, Hispanic Studies and Spanish Literature, such as Peter Lang, Tamesis Books, Visor Libros or Renacimiento, among others. Lately, he has paid attention to the links between literature, music, and politics. He has edited, for example, a book on Joaquín Sabina o fusilar al rey de los poetas (Madrid: Visor Libros, 2018), which includes a chapter where he deals with the question of whether "Sabina ¿no? es poeta". It is also worth mentioning his edition, introduction, and notes of an anthology of texts by Francisco Umbral: Mis queridos políticos. Retratos poéticos y antipoéticos (Sevilla: Renacimiento, 2017).
