Academic information
Guillermo Laín Corona has a BA in Hispanic Philology (2004) and a PhD in Spanish Literature (2009) from Universidad de Málaga. He also has an MA (2007) and a PhD (2011) in Hispanic Studies from University College London.
Teaching experience
Guillermo Laín Corona joined UNED in 2016 and is Full Professor of Spanish Literature since 2023. Between October 2023 and September 2024, he was Visiting Researcher at Centro de Estudos Comparatistas (Universidade de Lisboa). Previously, he had taught Spanish Language and Literature at University College London, Royal Holloway University of London, Universidad de Málaga, Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad Europea de Madrid and TAI: Escuela Universitaria de Artes y Espectáculos, as well as Spanish as a Foreign Language in different schools.
Research activity
Guillermo Laín Corona’s main research field is Contemporary Spanish Literature, having paid attention to the work of Gabriel Miró, Francisco Umbral and Joaquín Sabina. He has got funding from different research programs, most recently including Programa de Recualificación del Sistema Universitario Español (2023/2024). Between 2019 and 2025, he has been one of the two Principal Investigators (together with Clara I. Martínez Cantón) of PoeMAS, a research project studying the links between poetry and contemporary popular music, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in two trienniums (PGC2018-099641-A-I00 and PID2021-25022NB- I00). He is also interested in Spanish-American Literature. As part of the group SELITEN@T, he works on Contemporary Spanish Theatre and is Director of Signa. Revista de la Asociación Española de Semiótica.
Management experience in education
At the UNED Faculty of Philology, Guillermo Laín Corona has been Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs and Digitalization (2019-2023) and the academic secretary of the MA in Formación e Investigación Literaria y Teatral en el Contexto Europeo (2016-2019). Also, he has been the coordinator of the field of literature in the MA in Formación del Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanza de Idiomas (Faculty of Education, 2018-2020) and the coordinator of the field of literature in the Cursos de Acceso a la Universidad de Mayores de 25-45 años (2020-2022).

Publications in journals
Guillermo Laín Corona has published extensively in national and international journals that are highly indexed, such as Boletín de la Real Academia Española, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Revue Romane, Bulletin of Spanish Studies, Revista de Literatura and Arbor, among others. Recently, he has been part of Project PoeMAS, having studied the links between music and poetry. Particularly, he has co-edited (together with Clara I. Martínez Cantón) a monographic issue on “Poesía y música popular en español en el cambio de siglo”, in Pasavento. Revista de Estudios Hispánicos, 10.2 (2022), which includes his article on “Versiones de canciones de poemas de la Edad de Plata. Musicalización, recepción y consumo en la posmodernidad”. Also, it is worth mentioning his article “Versos al paso de Madrid: Atlas poético, cultura popular y significación política”, in Kamchatka. Revista de Análisis Cultural, 20 (2022).

Publications in books
Guillermo Laín Corona has published and/or edited books and chapters in prestigious national and international houses specialised in Humanities, Hispanic Studies and Spanish Literature, such as Peter Lang, Tamesis Books, Visor Libros and Renacimiento. Among his latest publications, there is his edition, introduction and notes of an anthology of texts by Francisco Umbral, Mis queridos políticos. Retratos poéticos y antipoéticos (Renacimiento, 2017), as well as his edition of a collective book on Joaquín Sabina: Siete versos tristes para una canción (Visor Libros, 2024), which includes his chapter “‘Marxista de la tendencia progrouchiana’. Figuraciones del humor en Joaquín Sabina”.
