Academic Information

.Dr. Yolanda Gómez Sánchez is Professor of Constitutional Law and Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair, ad personam of the European Union. Having obtained an Outstanding Award for the doctoral thesis "Constitutional rights relating to marriage and family relationships: Articles 32 and 39 of the Spanish Constitution of 1978", she has lectured at Universities in Regensburg (Germany), Montpellier (France) and Rome (Italy).

Academic positions held

Dr. Gómez is Coordinator of the Master and Doctorate in European Union programmes given by the UNED, and is also Director of the Department of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law at the UNED.

Research activity

The main lines of research are focused on the study of equality and assessment of gender impact, fundamental rights in the European Union, and the legal implications of biomedicine and biotechnology (fundamental rights in scientific research, the right to information and physical self-determination and data protection, etc.).

Professional experience

She was a member of the International Bioethics Committee of the UNESCO (2004-2008), a member of the Bioethics Committee of Spain (2008-2012), and is now a member of the Technical Committee of the National Stem Cell Bank.


Moreover, she is also a member of the Group of Legal Experts of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRALEX) involved in the preparation of reports on the situation of Fundamental Rights in Spain in relation to compliance with EU Law.


In 2014, she was appointed Director of the Collection of Public Law published by the Official Spanish Gazette (BOE) and is also a member of several other associations and scientific committees.


In 2015 she was appointed, unanimously, Member of the Research Council of the European University Institute (Florence, Italy) one of the most important research and Ph.D. institutions in Europe.


Presently, she holds both the Chair of Constitutional Law and the Jean Monnet Chair ad personam at the Spanish National University of Distance Education (UNED) in Madrid (Spain).

    •  MIEMBRO DEL PROYECTO DE INVESTIGACIÓN FINANCIADO POR LA FUNDACIÓN RAFAEL DEL PINO: EL REY. HISTORIA DE LA MONARQUÍA. INVESTIGADOR PRINCIPAL: JOSÉ ANTONIO ESCUDERO. DURACIÓN: (2005-2008). Resultados: bajo el título de "el rey. historia de la monarquía", 33 especialistas publicamos en 2008 una obra en 3 tomos en la editorial planeta, que obtuvo el premio nacional de historia de España 2009 otorgado por el Ministerio de Cultura.
