Academic positions held
Currently, I am Professor of Applied Physics (since 1996) at the Department of Fundamental Physics of the Faculty of Sciences of UNED. Previously, I have served as Assistant Professor at the Architecture School of the Technical University of Madrid (1987) and at the Faculty of Sciences of the UNED (since 1988).
Research activity
I made long-term research stays at the C.E.A. (Saclay, France), Istituto Nazionale di Ottica (Florence, Italy) and Haverford College (Philadelphia, E.E.U.U.U.).
I have been Principal Investigator of 11 Research Projects funded by the Ministry of Education of the Community of Madrid, as well as the Researcher responsible for the UNED group in one European Mobility Network, an Integrated Action with France and a Consortium of Research Groups of the Community of Madrid, all of them obtained in competitive calls. In the framework of these projects I have supervised 7 Ph.D. Thesis, 4 of which have received the Doctorate Award from the Faculty of Sciences of the UNED.
Research topics addressed: intermittent regimes in deterministic chaos, interface motion in porous media, fractal structures in electrodeposition, and instrumentation design for bulk and interfacial rheological measurements. My present research is centered in interfacial rheology of Langmuir monolayers and thin fluid films. The results of this research work are collected in more than 60 publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals and more than 150 communications to congresses, having received more than 1,500 citations.
My research activity is developed at the LSC - Laboratorio de Sistemas Complejos (Complex Systems Laboratory) within the Research Group Grupo de investigación en Material blanda y Fluidos (Soft Matter and Fluids Group).

Educational management experience
I have been Vice-Rector in charge of Teaching Staff (2009-2013) and First Vice-Rector (2010-2013) of the UNED. I have also been Director of the Department of Fundamental Physics (1998) and General Coordinator of the Interuniversity Doctorate Program with a Quality Mention "Complex Systems Physics" during (2004-2007). I have been a member of the Physics and Mathematics Conference of the ANEP (1996-1998) and elected member of the Governing Board of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics (2002-2004).
