He impartido docencia de grado y posgrado en las universidades siguientes: UNED, UPO, UB, UA, UAB, UPF, UOC, Europea (Madrid), Montpellier-1, Yale, Georgetown.
Soy el séptimo Catedrático Príncipe de Asturias de Georgetown University (2005-07). He sido director de la Escuela de Alta Gestión Pública de Andalucía (2010-11), responsable del área de ciencias sociales de la Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Prospectiva (2013-15), director del grupo de investigación Democracia y Autonomías: Sociedad y Política (2009-19), director del master universitario “Sociedad, Administración y política” (2010-19) y del doctorado “Ciudadanía, parlamentos y democracia” (2014-19), Vicepresidente del área de Ciencias Sociales de la Agencia Estatal de Investigación (2018-19). Soy corresponsal para España de la Comparative Candidate Survey.
Actividad Investigadora
A lo largo de mi carrera me he especializado en el estudio de las elites políticas, las organizaciones complejas (como los partidos políticos y la forma en que seleccionan a los futuros representantes de la ciudadanía), los nacionalismos y las identidades territoriales, y el comportamiento legislativo en los parlamentos, especialmente la construcción del consenso y el conflicto.
He sido visiting fellow en las universidades de Warwick, Berkeley, Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, Princeton, y he hecho estancias de investigación menores en Université de Montpellier-1 y LUISS.
En la actualidad dirijo un proyecto competitivo sobre la construcción del consenso y el conflicto en la política española (1980-2022) y trabajo con un equipo de investigadores/as en la actualización de varias bases de datos sobre los más de nueve mil representantes políticos de la democracia (Bapoldata ®), las votaciones a las más de diez mil leyes aprobadas en democracia (Badeley ®) y la tercera encuesta a representantes en las 19 cámaras en España.
